What is Vinyasa Flow Yoga?

Vinyasa Flow is a style of yoga that rhythmically transitions you through different postures (asanas) using your breath cycle. The flow can often be defined as a continuous movement between postures using the inhale and the exhale. As an example, in a grounding posture such as Cat and Cow, you would inhale on the Cow movement and then exhale on the Cat. You would then use the inhale and exhale to transition to the next posture.

There are a number of different types of yoga and it can sometimes be confusing knowing which one works for you. The key differences between Vinyasa Flow classes and other types of yoga are as follows. Hatha Yoga focuses on holding a posture for several moments and movements are at a slower pace whereas Vinyasa focuses on connecting the movement with the breath which tends to be faster. Iyengar Yoga focuses on the structural alignment of the physical body and settles you in therapeutic postures, using props such as chairs, belts, pillows and bolsters to assist you whereas Vinyasa yoga encourages movement and focus on breath with minimal props. Ashtanga yoga is considered the original form of yoga and all other yogas are based on it. It is very similar to Vinyasa flow in terms of postures however Ashtanga classes are very repetitive - they have a set sequence of poses that you do day in and day out, gradually progressing through the series. The beauty of Vinyasa flow is the variation - every class is different.

Vinyasa yoga has many physical, mental and emotional benefits. It improves your range of motion, increasing flexibility. It boosts your mood and lowers stress levels. It increases energy levels, and activates lymphatic systems. It helps build strength throughout your body and with the use of breath, gets you out of your head and into your body.

My Vinyasa flow classes focus on alignment, ensuring that you are activating the correct muscle groups and moving the correct part of the body. Although Vinyasa is faster in pace than other types of yoga, we still take time to ensure you are in the correct position before we move on.

Why 121 Yoga classes?

Private yoga sessions are a wonderful way to develop, deepen and improve your practice regardless of whether you are a beginner, you are working with an injury or have been practicing for years. Traditional yoga practice was taught by one teacher to one student and it was an opportunity to adapt the practice to the individual therefore creating a deeper understanding of the body and what it can do.

Group yoga sessions are fun, you get a community feel and get to share great energy however you are sharing the teacher’s attention and an individual has to fit into that group class environment. It is almost impossible for the teacher to give every student in the group 100% of their attention and if a student presents an injury just before the class starts, there isn’t time to adapt an entire lesson.

Below are 7 reasons why 121 and bespoke yoga classes, are beneficial to you and your practice -

  1. 121 yoga sessions are tailored to meet YOUR needs and goals - if you have a set goal there is opportunity to explore this

  2. You can choose what you want to focus on in each class or we can work together to plan the sessions

  3. You can choose to stop the session as many times as you want to ask questions especially if unsure about anything

  4. We can break down each posture and really finesse alignment which will improve strength and flexibility. We can also lead you into more challenging postures safely.

  5. If you are working with any injuries, the sessions can be adapted to you and your capabilities

  6. If you are uncomfortable around large groups of people, we can help build your confidence in the practice before you attend a group class

  7. We come to you so you can practice in your own home - no travel expenses, we can schedule the classes around your busy lifestyle, saving you time and you can wear whatever you want - pyjamas included!

121 and bespoke classes are a fantastic introduction to yoga but WILL also improve your practice. They truly are an investment as the main focus is YOU.
